A couple months back, my soror & friend Derria & I packed our bags and met in Tulum, Mexico. I just needed to get away to relax and recharge, so when she brought up the idea of Tulum, I was sold. I actually I smiled so wide as soon as I heard her say those magic words; Tulum had been on my list for a while.

The Rundown

Tickets which were super cheap–like $300–so there was no way we were passing those babies up. What a deal?! Next thing was figuring out our lodging, and of course we chose AirBnB for a more authentic experience. For only 75 bucks a night we booked this dope spot called Highline, which was chill, spacious, and fit Derria and me to a T. The balcony was charming and it had a rooftop pool (say no more). From the moment we checked in, it was like a dream. We immediately settled into the calming vibe of historic Tulum, and to top it off, the amazing staff helped us feel right at home.

So What Did We Do?

Aside from scouting the dopest spots for our photoshoots (a MUST HAVE on vacation), we lived in our swimsuits and laid by the beach, soaking up sun and loving the sunset views. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were spent at some of the most amazing restaurants, and when we weren’t eating, we were exploring the gorgeous city. I must’ve gained 5 pounds from all the delish spots…thankfully we got to walk it off every day!

Okay, So Food:

Our top restaurants: Azafran, Matcha Momma, Mateo’s, Posada Margherita. We did thorough research, and these are definitely my top recommendations! We wouldn’t have done anything differently when it comes to our dining choices.

Of course, y’all know we had to go to Pablo’s house! The mansion is now a stunning hotel, and we stayed and roamed around until they made us leave, LOL. But you guys, my favorite spot was hands down Azulik. Let’s get into the views; the freaking views were like none other we’ve ever seen, and the architecture was next-level dope! Since it was a tourist spot, we only wanted to stop in for a cocktail and to drink in the views, but if you’re down to mingle with the visitors (LOL), definitely stay and grab a bite at their restaurant, Kin Toh.

Stack My Money Fast and Go:

The best part of this incredible, much needed vacay was the amount of money we spent (or didn’t spend). I believe I took around $300, and brought $100 of it back home with me. You don’t really need much–only enough for food and souvenirs, if you’re into that kinda thing. I did get an extra $100 exchanged while on the trip so I could shop a little. For my fellow shopaholics, always make sure you’re leaving some time in your itinerary for visits to local shops to find unique pieces and cute trinkets for the house. I purchased a really cute glass that I’ve used almost every week since I’ve been home, picked up a cigar for my love Isa, and got my mom a fan for her hot flashes (Millie, I hope you’re not reading this!).

Packing Tips

Don’t even bother with lugging around more luggage than you know what to do with. For Tulum, I packed the least amount of clothing as possible and made myself stick to my goal of laying pool or beachside nearly every day. The weather gets crazy hot, so you really won’t even want to wear much outside of a swimsuit and shorts–I know I didn’t! And just as important as your sunscreen (you are packing sunscreen, right?) is OFF!. Mosquitos are killer, and bug bites ain’t cute. Lastly, bring the comfiest pair of shoes you own and a stylish fanny pack or crossbody bag so you can shop and roam hands-free. ASOS, American Apparel, and even Amazon have the cutest bags that are perfect for traveling abroad.

Lastly, I kept good on my promise, y’all! I vlogged while on my trip! It’s just a little somethin’ somethin’, and I know it’s way overdue, but that’s what happens when life gets away from you!

Until next time…

XOXO,

MC
