Last month, I shared a blog post about finding love after being single for 5 years, and you guys loved it. I never would’ve thought that almost a month later I would be sharing my ENGAGEMENT story! God is SO good!

If you follow me on Instagram (of course you do!) you already know we went to Hawaii. My job sent me there for a few days of work, so Isa and I thought it’d be nice to make a little vacation out of it. We stayed a week, which gave me just enough time to enjoy the beach and also catch up with my baby bro, who recently moved to Honolulu. We landed on Monday March, 11th after the world’s LONGEST flight (10 hours is insane, y’all!). Coincidentally, it was Isa’s 32nd birthday AND our first anniversary. I felt bad having him on a plane for so many hours knowing he’d be missing all his birthday cards, but I knew we’d have plenty of time to make up for it once we touched down in paradise. We landed, rested up, and prepared for Tuesday, our first full day in Hawaii.

Isa decided Tuesday to book a nice, romantic dinner for us. I thought nothing of it, since Tuesday was the perfect night to celebrate his birthday and our anniversary. I’d shopped specifically for a nice dress when preparing for our trip (actually, shout out to my friend Janna for picking it for me), because I knew we’d probably end our vacation with a romantic dinner on the beach. I obviously had no idea when buying it that it’d be my engagement dress! In fact, I tried to push our dinner back to Wednesday, but he said NO, LOL! That was kinda strange to me, since he’s usually so laid back and easygoing when it comes to making plans. So, dinner on Tuesday
was…weird!

He was acting so weird the whole time, on his phone texting nonstop (now I realize he was texting my brother). I kept asking if he was okay, because I could feel that his energy was off. He said he was fine, so we ate and drank a little, then finished up and he suggested we walked on the beach back to the hotel. It was a little hike, and y’all know I’m still a work in progress with these workouts, so I wasn’t with it at first, LOL. I was like “Really, Isa? Walk back in the sand?!” He assured me we wouldn’t have to walk the whole way, so I agreed and we got moving (now I see that I was jacking up his plans left and right! Ha!). As soon as we walk two steps, I felt a little drizzle. Y’all. I was over it! I said, “You don’t feel that? It’s starting to rain!”

Isa immediately changed the subject.
“The stars are so beautiful in Hawaii!”
I was confused, but looked up and couldn’t help but agree with him. The stars were so beautiful.
We walked and talked a little, and then Isa says, “Melissa, I have one last anniversary gift for you!”

Y’all, I turned around and Isa was on his knee. What he said exactly is all kind of a blur, but I remember him asking me to make him the happiest man alive by saying yes to being his wife. That’s all I remember, y’all! I was in such shock, and couldn’t believe what was happening. All I could yell was “THANK YOU!” Why? Chile, I don’t know! I didn’t even say yes until we got back to our hotel, LOL! I was overwhelmed with surprise and shock and happiness and LOVE. It all hit me at once.

My brother and his girlfriend popped out of nowhere and snapped pictures of us out on the beach. I was DONE! So shocked and surprised and full of tears. They pulled out a blanket, glasses, and champagne, and we all celebrated together.

It was such a special moment, and I was SO hype to take pictures of my ring! Even better was that my man made sure I had a piece of family in town to share this moment with. If you know me at all, you know that family is EVERYTHING to me. To know he thought to include my family even while out in Hawaii just further proved that he’s the man for me. My brother made the moment extra special, he was gassing me up ALL night! LOL

We left the beach, grabbed more champagne, and celebrated the rest of the evening by waking our family up at 4 in the morning, LOL. I just couldn’t wait to share the news!

Isa slept like a baby that night. I couldn’t sleep at all.

I had to work the next day, so needless to say I was TIRED. But the excitement of being able to get back to my fiancé got me through the longest day.

So, that’s our story! I’m still in disbelief, but so thankful that God sent this man right when he did. I needed time to get myself ready for what God wanted for me. He wanted me to grow patient, know my worth, and most importantly, learn to TRUST God’s timing. Once that happened, my special man came and gave me a special moment. I couldn’t have prayed for a more perfect person to share my life with. Isa is a dream–so patient, supportive, loving, a communicator, and CONSISTENT. He takes care of me and provides for his family! He’s an absolute dream and I’m so in love.

We’re still just living in the moment, so we haven’t locked in a date or anything just yet.  But trust that I’ll keep you guys updated on the blog and over on IG every step of the way…Promise!

AHHHH! I’m getting married y’all!

XOXO,

Future Mrs. Carnegie
