Cornrows vs Boxer Braids

Cornrows vs Boxer Braids

Have you flipped through the pages of your favorite magazine lately? You've probably seen celebrities like Kim K and her sisters or even famous blogger Chiara Ferrangni rocking the latest trend "BOXER BRAIDS" as the magazine states. After looking in confusion, I thought are they really talking about cornrows? The same cornrows I've been wearing since my hair has been long enough to braid? When did the name change? Why are they now the "latest trend" when African Americans have been wearing this style since the beginning of time. Well, I'm here to tell you, they are NOT boxer braids or the latest trend, they are called cornrows! Don't believe me? Well, check this out

I wear so many different hair styles throughout the year, but cornrows will always hold a special place in my heart. As I prepared for a recent trip out of town I decided to take it back to my childhood and get a few cornrows installed. This decision was the best ever! Not only did I get stopped by people over and over complimenting my hair, but I was also able to embrace my face. I had no hair covering my big forehead anymore and for the first time...I didn't mind it.

Are you thinking about getting some cornrows installed? Here are a few tips for care when rocking the so call "NEW TREND" that has been around FOREVER (rolls eyes).

Cornrow Care

  1. First things first, find an amazing braider! Mine just happens to be in my family. Thanks, Safa.
  2. Protect your hair at night with a satin scarf.
  3. Moisturize your scalp with your favorite hair oil.
  4. Keep your fly aways intact with Cantu's Extra Hold Edge Stay Gel.

That's it. The upkeep is pretty simple and you get a break from styling your hair everyday.
